Tomorrow’s a big day for me. As stated on my other blog, the trustees are voting on a number of my motions for work and, I’m going for my interview to get a National Insurance Card.
The NHS card, key to lower taxation and the ability to join a 3 month wait list to see a doctor. God help me if I have a hearing loss. Six months for the test, another 6 to 12 months for a hearing aid. Sad, just sad.
Any politician in the US who thinks nationalized healthcare is a good idea ought to bring someone they love who is older over here. Last year, Britain celebrated having less than 1 million people on the wait list. Goodness, let’s get out the Pimms.
But, because I was told to get this card by my job and bugged by my lovely and gracious wife I worked to get an appointment.
This appointment is like gold in English immigrant terms. It took me 2 letters and calling daily for three months to finally get a real-live human being on the phone.
One more thing – It’s not free. We’re taxed relentlessly here. Everything. Sometimes double or triple tax so don’t tell me its free.
I’ll smile and answer all the questions. Got to get me one of these cards. :)
