Another morning, another final. Only 800 words are holding me back from officially completing the term. Eight-hundred little words discussing economic theory and how it affects business management decision.
I don’t know if other people have experienced the phenomenon of having to learning something for the first time, twice. For reasons hidden deep in annals of this journal, beers and a little hair loss many of the things that I used to do that made me an effective leader have completely vanished from my immediate memory bank.
My latest, and best, example is from the Summer and Winter Events committee for which I chair. We’ve had a lot of trouble moving from thinking about the idea to actually doing something about it. There were a number of outside factors that contributed to this problem but the primary reason is me and the choices I made in how to direct the group.
My focus has been on building a good team, building their solidarity and time permitting their socialability with each other has been out of balance with the whole point of having a committee. What I forgot/missed was thinking about the best ways for this group to actually accomplish its goal because even if I’m successful getting everyone bought in, it will self-destruct if we don’t move toward something.
I’ve known this before. Hell, I’ve actually put the idea into practice with a great deal of success but not this time? Why? Why? Why? Oh, that’s the big question right now, recognising this issue a good start on solving the problem but more is needed.
On an unrelated note, yesterday I received a comment on the ye’ old blog on an article I wrote last May. It was on my article about the end of ‘slam door’ trains in the UK. If I may be southern for a moment, ‘ they ain’t my favourite.’ Guess the truly impressive thing was the anonymous person actually scanned through that many articles…
