My yearly ritual of filing US taxes is now complete. My taxes have never been terribly difficult because I (we) don’t own much, invest much nor make very much. The hardest part about filing taxes abroad is the complete and utter lack of information available for ex-pats.
I really stressed about filing in 2004 but now it’s no big deal. Thanks to North Carolina changing their submission laws this year was really easy. Prior to this year, NC wouldn’t accept digital submission from overseas. Why? Don’t know but every year I’d hit ‘file electronically’ and every year TurboTax would say – no. Can’t. Sorry. You must send a paper version.
Until this year! No red flag. I hit that little button and it said – fine. Woohoo!
My AGI for 2005? 2, yes two.
Next up the FAFSA and Sallie Mae.
