My first day at the Stern School of Business is now complete. It wasn’t an overwhelming day by any means with only one class. My first class of the semester was Brand Strategy with Scott Galloway. He is an intense teacher but appears to be pretty good.
I have a lot of trouble with the term ‘guru’ because frankly marketing is pretty freaking simple. Care about the customer, company and products while finding good ways to tell the public about it. The best aren’t gurus, they just happen to understand a very simple concept. The fact there are so many terrible marketers and people running business that is the real story.
Anyway, he was good.
After class I endeavored to find the book store to buy my books. I’d forgotten what a joy and expensive process this really way. After finding my way around the undergraduate bookstore I finally was told that in fact there was a second professional book store three blocks away. I walked over, said a small prayer for my bank account and started getting texts. And I got texts and I bought texts. After 45 minutes, $600+ dollars were gone on books alone. Oh how I miss LBS two ring binders.
These better be some good f#£king books.
The rest of the day has been spent replying to emails and doing laundry. Tomorrow brings Judgment and Decision making – I’ve heard good and bad things about the class. We shall see.
