Is Stress a Requirement for a good MBA?

January 24, 2007 By Al Martine

I finally read through the numerous blog posts from my fellow students (a lot of them 2008s) and it definitely seems like term 2 is the new term 1 at school. The mixture of job hunting, course load and other demands inevitably make things nuts. And all I can say is – good.

The stress and subsequent ability to handle it may be one of the greatest learning in the entire MBA. At least it was is for me. Yes, I know and have read about some who think the whole thing is easy, blah, blah, blah – congrats – here’s a cookie – I’ll even make it chocolate chip since I’m back in the states.

For everyone else the thing that bonds all MBAs, in my humble opinion, is the ridiculous workload that we all survive. And learn. And develop new techniques for handling stress. Work hard; play hard and enjoy the sunshine the day after classes are over.

Anyway, I wrote on this once before and figured another riff wouldn’t hurt anything.
