Let the Games Begin …

November 6, 2007 By Al Martine

In every new endeavor there’s always excitement and trepidation.  Whether it be the first day of kindergarten, junior high or high school.  Not much changes as one gets older except, if we’re lucky and focused, the outward appearance of nervous can be controlled.  My first day at WVU – uncontrollable sweating; first day at LBS – not too bad except I didn’t sleep the night before.

I guess we all learn to handle the new experiences in our own way.  Some people seem to be naturals; while others (and I’m in this camp) take a lot of time to learn the best ways to reduce stress; and there’s a final camp that never learned to handle it.

I’m at one of moments this morning.  Infosys started paying me about a month ago; today they start extracting a little bit of value for their salary.  I’m at t-minus 10 minutes before leaving for my first client meeting.  So far, so good.  I’ve slept, exercised and prepared for today as best I can.  No sweating, no problems – so far.  It’s a new chapter in my career; one I’m excited to start because today is the first day I really get to kick the tires of my new MBA.  How do I view business and working now that I’ve mastered something?  Don’t know.  But, I’ll mention it once it’s found. ;)

It’s all about the first Stockdale moment….”who am I, and why am I here?”
