Doctor Day

April 3, 2008 By Al Martine

I get to go to the doctor today.

Woohoo!

I should probably stop the post there just to show my excitement for going to the doctor.  But, since I have another 20 minutes before getting a shower I shall elaborate.  About five or six weeks ago during my work out (bench pressing) I felt a type of pop in my right shoulder.  Since that time, I’ve had off and on pain.  Not the go-and-get-reconstructive-surgery pain; just occasional reminders something isn’t right.

Apparently (so I’ve been told) the worst is at night when I rollover in my sleep – the words “whimper” have been uttered.  I routinely deny a guy like me could whimper, but considering the pain I occasionally experience during workouts, it seems possible.

My normal playbook didn’t work.  I self diagnosed (something wrong with my shoulder); then took 4 weeks off of any type of strenuous workouts (no lifting, only things that avoided shoulder turns, etc) only to find that after all that time it still remains at almost the exact level as the first day.  Not good.

My only two options were go to the doctor or decide all was fine and just live with it.  My high pain tolerance (as told after walking about a mile to find a doctor after the aikilles ackilles Achilles) makes just living with it possible, but not preferable.

So, today I make my way to the doc for a good checkup.   I hope the Doc doesn’t suggest I do nothing, but neither do I want him to suggest surgery (seems very, very unlikely).  Both suck as options.  The ideal outcome is that I have some type of ligament pull that just takes a long time to heal.

In about an hour, all those questions will be hopefully answered.
