Innovation Station

February 27, 2009 By Al Martine

The new home theatre PC has gotten me thinking about innovative new products that could be done relatively easily.  The term product is probably a little narrow but here we go:

  • All advertisers should place a logo at the bottom corner of their ads so that if a person fast forwards through their ad, they (the viewer) still sees the logo
  • Why isn’t there a software that turns a normal PC monitor into an e-book reader (like the Kindle)?  This would help newspapers distribute their content easier and possibly save them from the slow death we’re currently witnessing
  • Computers in the front room may finally make speech recognition useful.  As of now, it’s just a creepy way to get hacked, but it does seem reasonable that most people would use it if the computer controlled media.  “Computer, please pause DVD” would be useful.
  • More wish than innovation – content providers launch their own online channels that could be subscribed to via Vista Media Center, Mac, iPhone etc.  They would weaken the power of the cable – sat companies and provide users a HD option via Internet
