2.4 Million Dollars

April 17, 2008 By Al Martine

There’s an ad running on TV right now that asks, “What is your number?”  The number refers to how much you’ll have in the bank when retirement comes.  It’s one of the thousands of financial advisor commercials trying to scare push baby boomers to invest more (and with their company).

I like the ad because it got me thinking – what is my number? Turns out it’s around $2.4 million dollars in the bank earning around 4% interest over a year.  It’s reasonable.  And, it’s safe – no need to worry about stock market changes – the business cycle or any of that jazz.

Now, thanks to my love of sleeping in, playing on the Internet and going to the gym each day my goal is to raise this money ASAP.  I can pay for the things we have bought and be on the bench permanently while occasionally laughing at all those folks who want more.

Work the least for the most – a good rule of thumb.  Now, I just need an idea that makes around  $3 mil (to account for the tax man).

Ideas?
