If you're 29 and 364 days old you're younger than Mike Jurick

August 8, 2008 By Al Martine

[Editors note: The author of World Sojourner is not responsible for the pictures and information conveyed in this posting.  Similar to a lawn mower that can be used for a specific job if others see it as useful, so to can we view the posting of this blog.  This won’t change the fact I’ll probably sleep in my closet with a riffle for the next couple days – just in case.  The guy is a trained military man and, and I really, really mean this, an all around good guy who can take a joke.  Especially a fella in his 30s – not 20s like yesterday – but thirties.  Older.  Wiser. Or, just older. ]

In honor of the latest Batman movies, which tell the story of a hero (and all around good guy who has a great sense of humor and great friend is a hell of a lot older now) I’m going to tell the story of Michael A Jurick Jr – not only how a young man growing up in West Virginia becomes a kick-ass military guy but also as an exclusive to this blog, we shall unveil his alter-ego as well.

Sometimes a good movie starts with the end and works its way backwards – so to will this post

Today, at 30 we have Mike Jurick (by the way I’m using Mike’s name more often so it’ll Google better – hit me with a link so it’ll get a better page rank)Mike Jurick 6

Mike Jurick – super hero

But how does this 30 year old guy go from sweet young man?:

To super-hero:

There were other options:

Miko 7

NASCAR for instance – but that was too slow

Or:

Mike Jurick 8

Rock music – because chicks dig a guy who can play guitar – but later he found the nice young ladies really like well dressed men:

Mike Jurick 2

Big bow tie, or small:

Mike Jurick 3

The attire then led to new ideas & ambitions – politics?

Mike Jurick 4

But, when everything was said in done (at least to this point) fighting bad guys publicly required at least one side-arm:

Mike Jurick 5

and an alter-ego similar to Clark Kent:

Miko 1

But everyone knows Clark is really superman:

Mike Jurick Jr – today’s your birthday my friend.  If you know Mike or don’t – please leave him a comment and a birthday wish.

In case you’re wondering how these pictures ended up scanned and on my hard-drive – you can certainly thank the two most important women in your life.

Happy Birthday!  Corky is still on top of that car roof and enjoy the day!

I would never rat out my two best informants – think of it as more of a test for Mike. :)

Mrs J – I’d never rat you or Mike’s lovely wife out – never!

Never having heard of this Mike Jurick, I went to Google. I found there he drinks Bud Lite by the bucket, is President of the Rich Rodriquz Fan Club and married to an awesome lady named Missie. 30 years old huh? Mike, I have shoes that old.

By the way, the HRC Officer Personnel Mgmt Director is an old friend and I’ve arranged to have the photos from this blog sent to your ORB for the Majors Board. You’re welcome. No need to thank me.

My friend, have a great birthday from one “old” ex-Delta Commander to another. Proud to know you and proud of all you did to take care of your soldiers and families.
    Best wishes,
    Ron

Happy Birthday Mike! Hey just remember that, from what I hear 30 is the new 20! Or at least that’s how people are consoling themselves these days…

Hey, I’d have posted your old Command Photo, but I found it taped to a wall in the back of the Company and it had all these pin-like holes it in… Can’t imagine what the guys were using it for. ;)

Take care and hope you enjoyed your B-day!

    Cheers,

    Steve Santa Maria

Mom was first on the list so it is only fitting that I would be last since I don’t keep up with things like I should. But what a neat blog. Your b-day is past but I hope you had a happy one. I’m sure Missie made sure of that. And it was great seeing you guys at the beach. Will be even greater when we see you in California.
